Most Commonly Asked LASIK QuestionsHow can I find out if I'm a candidate for iLASIK?The best way to determine if you are a candidate for this life-changing procedure is to come to the Cataract & Lasik Center of Utah for a FREE iLASIK consultation.
When do I stop wearing my contacts? If you wear soft contact lenses, you need to remove your contacts 2 weeks prior to your preoperative exam. If you wear hard or rigid gas permeable lenses, you will need to remove them several weeks prior to your exam. Talk with our Laser Vision Coordinator for more information.
Is the procedure painful? You may experience mild discomfort or pressure during the procedure. You should expect slight burning in the first few hours after surgery.
What if my eye moves during the procedure? The VISX laser uses the latest eye tracking technology to adjust for minor eye movements. If your eye were to move abruptly during the procedure, the laser stops automatically. When your eye repositions and aligns with Iris Registration, the laser begins exactly where your treatment was interrupted.
How soon after surgery can I expect to see results? Many patients see results immediately with iLASIK. The quality of vision improves for several weeks, commonly stabilizing at one month after surgery. Each individuals correction is unique.
When can I return to work? After surgery the majority of our patients return to work and resume normal activity the next day, with the exception of no swimming or hot tubbing for 2 weeks.
Will I need reading glasses after iLASIK?Your need for reading glasses depends on your age and the condition of your eyes. If you are over 40 and currently use reading glasses, then you have developed a condition called presbyopia. Presbyopia occurs when the lens of the eye loses its ability to focus. Since iLASIK reshapes the clear window of the eye, the cornea, iLASIK will not eliminate presbyopia. For people who do not want to wear reading glasses or bifocals to correct presbyopia, the excimer laser can be used to create a solution called monovision.
What is monovision?Monovision is achieved by correcting one eye for near vision and the other for distance vision. Both eyes can adjust to work together. If you have healthy eyes and are looking for an alternative to wearing reading glasses, monovision may be for you. Before having this treatment, our doctors perform special testing to make sure that monovision is a good option for you.
Why is now the right time for iLASIK?Safe, precise technology, surgical expertise, and affordable financing make now the perfect time to have laser vision correction at the cataract & Lasik Center of Utah.
